Barnados Tour de Cure Clown Doctors
The history of Barnardos Australia began with the first migration of children from the UK in 1921. Barnardos Australia takes its values and direction from the work of its founder, Dr Thomas Barnardo, whose life is outlined. The work of Barnardos Australia deals particularly with the prevention of abuse and entry into care. Barnardos operates children’s family centres, permanency programs for 'out-of-home' care, adolescent services and advocacy work. The Barnardos 'family' of agencies in United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia have adapted to local conditions. Incorporated in Australia in 1995, Barnardos Australia maintains links to Barnardos’ international family.
Tour de Cure's purpose, from 2007 to 2010, is to raise money for vital Australian charities that aim to cure cancer for men, women and children. One in two men and one in three women will be directly affected by Cancer before the age of 85, and even our children are not immune. This year alone, 106,000 new cases of Cancer will be diagnosed and 39,000 people will die from Cancer in Australia. Funding is vital for hope, research, support, improved treatment options and ultimately finding a cure for this disease, which despite developments, is still the leading cause of death in the country. Clown Doctors dose sick children with fun and laughter. Imagine being a child in hospital, away from the comfort of your home and all that is familiar, and feeling sad, anxious, frightened, lonely or in pain. This is where Clown Doctors can help. They treat children in hospital with medicine of a different kind…..doses of fun and laughter! The Foundation has 55 professional Clown Doctors working in all the major children’s hospitals around the country. They are highly skilled professional performers trained by the Humour Foundation to work in the sensitive hospital setting. The Foundation provides on-going support and opportunities for professional development. Clown Doctors work in partnership with health professionals.

Guide Dogs
When your name is Guide Dogs, everyone naturally assumes that you train Guide Dogs for people who are blind or vision impaired. Which, of course, we do. But it's not all that we do.

We train people who are vision impaired to use canes, canines and electronic aids to improve their mobility and thus independence and quality of life. We train companion dogs for children and adults who are disabled or disadvantaged owing to age, isolation or ill health. We advocate on behalf of the people we assist to make the community an easier place in which to live and work.
